Madeline Rose Hanley was born on July 19, 1994. When a child is born, most parents wonder what the future will hold for their baby girl. Madeline's parents could have never guessed that she would grow up to be an elite gymnast competing all over the world! Madeline, or "Madie" as she is often referred to, resides in Danielsville, PA and she started gymnastics when she was just four years old. "I started gymnastics because my sister went to a play party and I wanted to do it too!" Although it is rare in the gymnastics world, Madie and her older sister Cassie (age 16) both quickly progressed through the levels and made it to the sport's highest level in less than ten years. The Hanleys remain proud supporters of their children, but not just Madie and Cassie, their three sons too! Jacob (age 13), Samuel (age 8), and Alexander (age 5) add to the craziness of the Hanley lifestyle. Madie's mom, Bronwyn, works in a nursing home and her dad, Richard (Rick) is an iron worker. In addition, Madie also has a wide assortment of pets! "I have a St. Bernard Lab Mix dog (Rocko), 2 black cats named Magic and Milkshake, a stray cat that we pretty much own named Re, two guinea pigs named Waffles and Pancake, and 5 fish but they don't have any names!"
Madie trains at Parkettes Gymnastics in Allentown, PA. There she is coached by Bill & Donna Strauss, Robin Netwall, and John Holman; the same coaches that coached 2000 Olympian Kristen Maloney. Madie isn't the only up-and-coming star training at Parkettes. She also trains with Lia Del Priore, Kelsey Kreider, Annette Miele, Jackie Mowery, Elizabeth Price, Morgan Steigerwalt, Becky Tutka, and of course her sister, Cassie! Madie may only be 14 years old and 5 feet tall but she has quite a few accomplishments to list. In 2007, Madie won the all-around bronze medal at the PA Level 10 State Championships and the Level 10 Regional Championships and she qualified to compete at the J.O. Nationals. She qualified to the international elite level and qualified to compete at the US National Championships in both 2007, 2008, and 2009. Also, Madie turned some heads by winning an international competition in 2008- The Friendship Classic. What does the future hold for Madie? Only time will tell and Madie is keeping her options open. "I want to achieve the best that I can and I want to get a college scholarship!" With Madie's talent and determination, those goals shouldn't be a problem. But life isn't all work and no fun for Madie. When she is not in the gym or working on her schoolwork at home, Madie enjoys swimming, riding her bike, getting sun, and hanging out with her friends.
