Alexandra Raisman was born on May 25, 1994. Fifteen years later, Aly is a junior international elite gymnast that is making a name for herself and earning medals across the world! She began her gymnastics career at Exxcel Gymnastics and switched to Brestyan's Gymnastics in 2004. There she is coached by two of the most successful coaches in country, Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Mihai and Silvia were named "Region VI Coaches of the Year" for 2006 and Mihai earned the title of "USA Gymnastics Coach of the Year" in 2005.
Since joining gymnastics, Aly quickly made her way through the levels. She skipped levels 5 and 7 and continued to have success along the way. Aly began competing as a level 9 in 2006. She became the 2006 Massachusetts State Champion! She also earned gold medals on bars and beam and silver medals on vault and floor. Aly went on to finish 2nd on Regionals and she qualified to compete at the Level 10 Eastern Championships where she won bronze medals in the all-around, bars, and floor. That summer, she qualified to the junior national elite level and she finished 2nd all-around at the US Challenge. Aly also came in first on floor and 3rd on beam. She was named a member of the National Pre-Elite Training Squad.
Aly began the 2007 season as a level 10. She started off the season with a bang by winning the all-around at the Brestyan's Invitational! She went on to finish 4th all-around and 1st on beam at States and 3rd all-around and 1st on beam at Regionals. From there, she qualified to compete at JO Nationals where she finished an impressive 14th all-around and 4th on beam out of 57 competitors. In 2008, Aly won States and Regionals as a Level 10 and finished 14th at J.O. Nationals and in 2009, Aly won the bronze medal in the all-around at the US Junior National Championships. She even earned an international assignment to compete at the Junior Pan American Championships and she represented the USA well by finishing 3rd all-around and 1st on vault and floor. Aly even helped Team USA win the gold in the team competition! In the future, Aly hopes to continue her gymnastics success at the elite level. With all she has accomplished so far, that seems very likely!
